Watermelon

Varieties

Viking, Allsweet, Sugar Baby, Champagne

Description

Belonging to the melon family we can be round, soccer ball-size or an elongated, egg shape. Our skin is smooth, hard, thick, green or yellow skin or rind. Some of us are strongly striped with dark green markings, whilst others are only faintly mottled with dark green. The flesh is grainy, pink-red, sweet, and very juicy. Some varieties have seeds and others are seedless.

Selection, Storage & Handling

Choose fruit that are heavy for their size, glossy and, when tapped, sound hollow. Under-ripe melons can be ripened at room temperature. Wrap ripe melons in a plastic bag and refrigerate up to 5 days.
